Sometimes The Most Aligned Thing You Can Do is Change Your Mind

What I'm letting go above to welcome the Spring Equinox

Read Time: 4 minutes

Today is officially spring.

For ancient civilizations like the Incas and the Egyptians, the spring equinox wasn’t just a date on a calendar. It was a sacred turning point—so important that they built massive stone structures aligned precisely with this moment.

At Machu Picchu, the Incas carved the Intihuatana stone (the “Hitching Post of the Sun”) at such a precise angle that at noon on the spring equinox, the stone casts no shadow. For just an instant, the sun appears to be “tied” to the stone, a moment of perfect cosmic balance.

In Egypt, the Great Sphinx and the Pyramids of Giza were positioned so that on the spring equinox, the sun sets directly over the Sphinx’s shoulder and between the pyramids. The ancient Egyptians believed this alignment connected the earth to the heavens, marking the moment when light and dark balanced perfectly before tipping toward growth, expansion, and renewal.

A time to plant seeds, release what no longer served, and trust that nature would do what it does best: transform.

I’ve been doing some of my own reflecting as we move into this new season. Fall and winter were... deeply reflective for me. A lot of shifting and moving pieces.

During the winter, I was focused on creating a group coaching program I’d been planning to launch this spring. I built the whole thing: the structure, the content, the delivery model.

And now? It’s not launching.

At least not right now.

When Momentum Shifts

I’m not launching it because something is wrong, but something about the timing feels off. The energy around it isn’t there anymore. And I’ve learned (sometimes the hard way) to follow inspired action, not obligated action.

I used to be so rigid in my planning. Whether it was a travel itinerary, a work project, or a day date with my spouse. I’d have a plan, and that’s what was going to happen, the end. As you can imagine, that didn’t always work out so well for me. And I can’t help but wonder, what plans are you stubbornly holding on to?

I know it can be frustrating when plans don’t go the way you intended. Especially when you’ve poured time, energy, resources, and emotional investment into something. Whether it’s a relationship, a job, a project, or a version of your life you thought you were building.

There’s this voice that shows up and says, “But I put so much into this. I can’t just walk away now.”

And here’s what I want to say to you, no matter what…none of it is wasted.

The work you did still taught you something. The effort you put in still shaped you. The experience still has value, even if the outcome isn’t what you expected.

Our human self likes to cling to things. It loves predictability. But we don’t grow from always knowing the outcome.

Sometimes, the most aligned thing you can do is change your mind.

Following the Spark

What’s been alive for me lately is different than what I expected. Amazing opportunities have come my way this year: working with Fortune 500 companies, collaborating with friends, and resurrecting projects that have been collecting dust on the shelf.

It’s been fun. And exhausting.

I’ve also been thinking more and more about finally writing the book (something I’ve been wanting to do since I was a kid). I’m still figuring out the details, but for the first time, I feel like I’m in a place to actually start writing it.

There are so many projects I want to do in this life. So many directions I could go. And I want to do them all.

But here’s what I’m learning (and relearning): we don’t plant every seed we have in the spring. We choose the ones that feel most alive. The ones that make us feel like we’re in flow!

When we take inspired action, everything compounds. It feels effortless. Doors open that you didn’t even know existed. Signs and synchronicities show up in mind-blowing ways. And that’s your indicator that you’re moving WITH the current energy, not against it.

But to get there, you have to be willing to let go of your cutely curated plans and expectations. No matter how much you’ve already invested.

A Little Cosmic Timing

And for my folks who dabble in astrology (and even for those who don’t, just keep reading): this week we had a New Moon in Pisces.

Pisces is the last sign of the zodiac: the sign of endings, release, and spiritual renewal. A New Moon is always about beginnings, but a New Moon in Pisces is about clearing space first. It’s about letting go of old identities, dissolving what no longer fits, and trusting that what’s meant for you will find you when you stop gripping so tightly.

It’s the perfect energy to move into spring with. So as we step into this new season, I invite you to reflect on these questions:

Journal Prompt (choose one, or try them all):

  1. What am I still holding onto because I “should,” not because it still feels aligned?

  2. If I trusted that nothing I’ve built is “wasted,” what would I be willing to release right now?

  3. What has momentum/energy inside me right now? Not what I think I “should” focus on, but what actually feels alive?

I’ll be sitting with these questions today. You’re welcome to join me, grab your journal, and see what comes up.
